Past Events
The events that Friends of Berkeley arrange are many and varied. Our aim is to provide a mix of fundraising activities, social functions, and fun events to satisfy everyone.
Currently our annual event list includes the following: regular Film Nights, Concerts, Discos, Family Fun Night, Race Night, Craft Fayres, Coffee Afternoons, Sponsored Fitness events, Treasure Hunt, Food evenings, Bingo, Beetle Drive, Quizzes, etc.
If you can think of something else that we can do, have any ideas for improvements or suggested changes to the way in which we currently run our events, or indeed if you are willing to help out in any way, then please please please let us know!
Below are brief summaries of the events that we have held in 2006/07 so far:
- Film Nights:
The regular films shown at School are still very popular events enjoyed by all the children. The ticket money form the films goes straight to School funds but the Friends provide the catering at the events which last year raised in excess of £550
- Family Fun Night:
This year we are hoping for a bumber year having been let down by the weather last year.The evening last year raised £1290 with a further £434 donated by Barclays Bank throught their generous £ for £ scheme.
- Coffee Afternoons
We hold two or three coffee afternoons every year, and they are always popular. Entertainment is provided by the children, and Friends of Berkeley organise teas, coffees and cakes. Last year these events raised over £430 in profit towards school funds.
- Christmas Craft Fayre -:
This event involves a great deal of hard work and planning, and involves a lot of people including external stall holders and suppliers. Planning starts as soon as we get back after the summer holidays, and Santa is always booked early to ensure that the younger visitors are not disappointed. Various stalls, craft activities and games are arranged, and a licensed bar, sweets and soft drinks ensure that everyone has a good time. After all expenses and costs were paid, we made a massive net profit of over £1,033, far outstripping previous years, which was supplemented by a further £304 thanks to support from Barclays £for£ corporate matching scheme. Many, many thanks to all who supported this event!
- Christmas & Easter Discos:
The Disco is an event for all of the family - there is plenty of room for adults to sit, relax and chat, and the children are kept entertained throughout the evening with a lively disco. We normally have a prize raffle and lucky dip 'bran tub', plus a '50p Toss' game for both adults and children. As well as being a lot of fun, these activities also contribute in a big way to the fundraising effort. After the ticket sales, the biggest earner of the night is the licensed bar, sweets and soft drinks. Total net profit from these events last year was in excess of £840. Thank you for your support.
- School Concerts:
Mr Birchenough works extremely hard with the musically talented pupils in the school, and continues to be supported by pupils even after that have left Berkeley and moved up to High School. Two concerts are normally arranged each year, which Friends of Berkeley are pleased to support. Friends of Berkeley provide a licensed bar (including hot mulled wineat Christmas), soft drinks and sweets. Besides the outstanding performances from the orchestra and choir, audience participation is encouraged! Many thanks to everyone that took part and supported these popular events.
The total net profit after all expenses was over £1300.
- Sponsored Circuits:
The support from family and friends for this event is always phenomenal. We incur no expenses, so all of your valuable sponsorship and Gift Aid donations go a long long way to helping provide for new equipment and facilities in school.
